Our History

At Jake's Pizza, we have a long tradition of serving you
the best tasting pizza in the world. A tradition that goes back 92 years, when our founder, Giacomo Lucchesi, began serving his pizzas out of a sidewalk cart on Staten Island, now the site of the Arthur Kill Correctional Facility.

Giacomo, or "Jake", as he was known to all, brought the secret to making the finest tasting pizzas in the world with him from his native Sicily, from where he hastily booked passage on a slow freighter for America, just ahead of several lupara-toting brothers of Maria Moretti, a wealthy spinster whose father felt that her affections had been trifled with.

Jake's sidewalk pizzas were so popular that he soon opened several more carts in the New York City area, and later, in 1919, a small pizzeria in Manhatten, now the current location of our fine restaurant, Jake's Pizza.

One secret to the unparalled taste of a Jake's Pizza is using only the freshest ingredients in each and every pizza. The other secret is..... well, a secret.
